His real name is Syed Mir Nisar Ali. He is famous for the struggle against zamindars and the British and his bamboo fortress. He was born in Chandpur village of Basirhat of twenty-four Parganas. Titumir declared independence against British rule in the present twenty-four Parganas, Nadia and Faridpur territories. The local zamindars' own army and the British army beat Titumir several times. Later he was martyred in Bamboo Fort while fighting with British soldiers.
